The Drama For June, 2006

Once upon a time you had a certain kind of PR machinery taking place whenever the next celebrity/tastemaker backed club, opened. The photo ops, the red carpet, little mentions on Page Six or on E channel, it was all so, tame, so civil. But that's changing! Introducing Club Plum's opening month, and something the Crazy Pinoys call,,,,,Thug Marketing.
Yes, Thug Marketing. Why be just another tired clothing designer with a watered down drink in your hand all night, when you can start a brawl with an equally sleepy rock star?! Why just an MC sucking up overpriced champagne and sitting there, when you can be harassing models and causing your whole night to end up as a headline, especially if you haven't had a record in a minute! Why, indeed. For once, things are trickling up, not down. From the gutter to the B list, we've finally arrived! It's the new Ghetto Fabulous. We'll bring a helmut and take a back table, thanks.
The Hyphy movement took a terrible turn in the 206 last week, with a woman falling out of her car on the West Seattle Bridge. Apparently it takes a little practice to drive while standing!
In promotions news, look for our street footwork on behalf of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour DVD, and the 2007 lineup for EA Sports is on its way.
One of my secret street connects had this to say about the recent old skool New Jack Swing Tour coming through Seattle, and this is an exact quote:
"Just the New Jack Swing Tour dissin Seattle with No Teddy Riley, no Raphael (the lead singer) of Toni Tony Tone. All Blackstreet missing except for the Buff dude, who was not an original member. Same shit they did in the 80’s and early 90’s. How they messed up the game for everybody."
BUZZ for June: Jacob The Jeweler arrest, Ashanti pregnancy, Hells Kitchen (Fox Network Mondays), Democratic Party takeover of Seattle's eastside? Mercedes Benz lawsuits, Bill Gates leaving Microsoft, http://www.mixrevloution.com/
WANKSTER FOR JUNE: Cristal. You should have counted your blessings. There was no greater endorsement of the product than by the top 5 proponents of your grape. Forget that it is too sweet anyway, Tattinger, Pol Rogers, Salon have far superior product. Jay Z and others are going to take away your Christmas bonuses this year! You don't want us? You got it!
SHOUT it out: DJ Scene, MC Lyte, Nasty Nes, the staff @ Oceanaire Seattle.

The Drama For May, 2006

Is it midyear already? The Crazy Pinoys haven't even gotten up yet , and half the year is over! We have to limit the Mojitos and get some work done........well, tomorrow maybe!

It's time for us to weigh in on a few news items this month. First, the lesson we get from New York's Hot 97 DRAMA and what has been going on in their lobby, what with the shootings, the fighting, etc, is that to have real power, absolute power, you need to own! Own everything. The building, the block, the street, the contractors who build, the city that approves permits. Why do we say this? Because it is too sexy to be able to evict radio stations that cater to bad behavior and ruin the neighbors peace of mind and condo values! We are just in love with the idea that if people recording hit records can't behave themselves, big companies playing their crap will lose their leases! Isn't it fabulous?! The answer to it all is, OWN.

Next, as a dashing super action hero myself, it is with great interest that we review the flak over the choice of the next 007 in the upcoming Casino Royale pic. I don't know much about Craig David but personally, whatever Pierce Brosnan was asking, they should have paid ($20M). Check out http://www.craignotbond.com/ and make your own opinion.

Message to all the non entertainment related people on MySpace: Get Out. As one of the first thousand invitees to join the thing in the first place, it is irritating for me to review profiles that say things like "no bands" or "no artists" for friends. Whaa? You asses seem to misunderstand the history and motive of that site. Please relegate yourselves to Nick Lachey's social networking space (http://www.ifly.com/ ) if you truly feel this way about the arts!

In promotions news we are top heavy with work on behalf of non profits and charities right now. It's cool because we are SO VERY TIRED of rap music politics and the games. It's age and experience speaking now. Labels, do you think sending MP3's to everyone and focusing solely on P1 is promotion? We think NOT.

In closing this month's Drama, I can't tell you how wonderful it is to finally be calling things the way they are. The gloves are off, let the street games begin!

The Drama For April, 2006

Dear Celebrities And Icons,
We mere mortals appreciate having you around to enhance our mundane lives. Your creativity, talents, money, look, politics and even your foibles are something lots of us regular folks watch.
But would it be ok with you if for the rest of the year.... you could keep those champagne bottles, luxury cell phones and free products you get from the big brands to remain on your table or in your hands... and not on the back of the heads of your assistants, A & R reps, publicists, magazine editors, house personnel, children, drivers, make up artists, hotel and restaurant staff, bodyguards and the all the rest?
And while we are on the subject of celebrity culture, would it also be ok if you properly tipped out service staff in these three- four star establishments you frequent? You see, the entire building talks about you for damn near a month after you leave that $5.00 after the $800.00 bar bill gets laid down, trust us on this point.
Let us help you establish a solid round number to remember...Tip $20.00 for every $100.00 your self absorbed phat head spent and served by Ordinary People. Especially you sports figures! We know this may not have been covered by those schools you played for and never attended!
In Crazy Pinoy news, Seattle hip hop will add another record to its books with the addition of Gator Snaps (http://www.noconwood.com/). Set to release in June, be sure to check out Cadillac Mackin'....nuff sed!
If you're feeling charitable this spring and summer do consider worthwhile events such as the Susan S. Komen Foundation Walk A Thon and Diabetes Association events. Check with your local news and listings in your market.
R.I.P. Proof from D12. Needless and stupid haterism, that's all I can say.

BUZZ FOR APRIL: http://www.azimutyachts.net/, The Sentinel (film), Remy Ma (Universal), Grillz seizures, BlackSport Sneakers, Las Ramblas (Vegas).
WANKSTER FOR APRIL: Damon Wayons. Trying to trademark the N word for commercial purposes is simply not right.
SHOUTS: My real estate players and clients for http://www.genedexterhomes.com/ / RE/MAX Integrity, Charlie and Dub @ The Booth Marketing. This week I'm not shouting out to anyone not doing business with us! How's that!

Progress can only be made by unreasonable men.
